Rapture

Rapture is a visually immersive film rooted in cultural expression and emotional storytelling. The narrative explores themes of identity, transformation and human experience through a strong cinematic and symbolic visual language. As the Costume Designer, I developed character driven looks aligned with the film’s emotional arc and cultural context. The costumes were designed with a focus on authenticity, texture, and narrative depth using clothing as a storytelling device to enhance mood, character evolution and visual continuity.

Costume Language — Realism in Garments

Garments are kept strictly realistic and unconstructed—they do not feel designed, styled, or elevated for cinema. Instead, they exist as part of everyday life, reinforcing the film’s grounded and immersive world.

There is no attempt to aestheticize poverty, culture, or identity. The clothing simply exists.

Approach

Garments are grounded in everyday functionality, shaped by routine, labor, and environment rather than intention. They carry visible wear and imperfection, feeling lived-in and reused rather than styled. Silhouettes remain simple and non-expressive, with no exaggeration or design intervention. Clothing is rooted in local authenticity, reflecting accessibility and cultural reality instead of constructed costume. Overall, the wardrobe maintains emotional neutrality—it does not communicate identity or narrative, allowing the atmosphere to hold meaning instead. An oneiric reconstruction of tradition—where lost garments re-emerge as fragments of memory rather than objects of the present.

The dream sequence shifts from realism into a memory-driven space, where costume becomes expressive and symbolic. It reflects a personal urge to revive declining traditional dress, using archival and museum-inspired garments as fragmented elements. Rather than fully restoring tradition, the costumes present it as fading yet persistent, creating a tension between past and present, preservation and loss.

Character Styling and Summary

Character styling remains subtle and intentional, with garments chosen to quietly reflect each individual’s personality. Shirts and everyday pieces are selected based on tone, behavior, and presence rather than overt design.

The approach avoids exaggeration, allowing small variations in color, fit, and texture to suggest character differences without breaking the film’s realism.
